Parish Notes July and August 2018

school Logo It is hard to believe that we have almost come to the end of the school year… and what a busy year it has been! As I am writing, the children are very busy rehearsing for the end of year production, which this year is Oliver.  The children are very excited to appear once again on the stage at The Grand.  I would like to say a special thank you to Mrs Welch who each year produces a fabulous production.  We have such talented children and it is wonderful that they get this opportunity to shine. The children over the past few weeks have been in fine voice and the choir in particular enjoyed being part of the Blackburn music festival.  They are also looking forward to evensong at the cathedral.  Year 3 are very excited about singing at Blackpool Tower as well.
Cultural Diversity Week
This week we have welcomed Prags to come and work with us.  She has been leading different workshops with all of the children – who have experienced Bollywood dancing in wonderful costumes, rangoli art and henna designs on their hands.  I know that the children have asked many challenging questions to deepen their understanding of different cultures and faiths.  Many thanks to Mrs Harris and all of the staff for organising such wonderful activities.  In addition to this exciting week, next week Mrs McMahon has organised our annual ‘Creative Opportunities and Outdoor

Learning Week’ (COOL Week!) which I know will be filled with fun and excitement.
Building News
As you will have noticed, the extension is progressing well. The builders are working very hard and have been blessed with good weather.  Our reception children have coped well with a significantly reduced learning space but know that they will benefit in the end with brand new classrooms!  It is anticipated that the work will be completed by the end of October.
As we come to the end of the school year, could I please ask that you pray for our year 6 children and their families as they leave our school and move onto the next chapter in their lives.  May they leave with fond memories of their time at St Leonard’s and the skills and values that they will keep throughout their lives.  Please also pray for our new Reception children who are joining our school family.  What a big step!
